Tips To Design Your Dream Bathroom

Whether you’re building designing an entirely new bathroom or remodeling and existing one, Designer Drains has got you covered when it comes to tips for your bathroom renovation. Here are some cool new ideas to get your bathrooms in tip-top shape.

First, list the items you absolutely need in your bathroom. This list includes, of course, the toilet and the sink. If it’s a full bathroom, you’ll need to decide on a bath and shower or a shower stall. Your choice all depends on your individual needs and preferences.

Next, choose the items you would like to include in your dream bathroom. Often people want a cabinet under the sink, though if you have a small space you might prefer a pedestal. Plan on a mirror over the sink, with or without a medicine chest. Lighting is important. A fan can be helpful for keeping moisture out. You’ll probably want a space for shelves of some kind. You can use the storage space for towels, toiletries or other items as well.

If you’re struggling to visualise what your bathroom would look like with the different options that you’ve thought of there is an easy way for you to see if the items you are thinking about will go together or not, all you need to do is create a Mood Board. To do this you can find images of the furniture and fittings, colours and fabrics and place them all on the board too see if they go together, for example if you’re thinking of having an Oak Vanity Unit and Oak Shelves first search for the Oak Vanity Unit Online and then either find a picture of it in google images or find an online store that has a picture of it on their website, take a screenshot of your chosen vanity unit it will then be saved as an image on your computer, once it’s saved you can then print the image, after it’s printed cut out the vanity unit in the picture and place it on the mood board then do the same for the Oak Shelf Unit, continue to do this until you have every item you want in your new bathroom on your mood board.

You can remove items that you don’t want and add new ones that you do until you have exactly what you want to make your dream bathroom come to life displayed on your mood board. Not only has the mood board helped you decide what you want in your new bathroom but when hiring the professionals to renovate your bathroom you can show them your mood board and they will be able to see exactly what it is you want instead of trying to explain it to them.

At this point, you might want to consider asking a professional to help with the design but, If you feel you can do it on your own, here are some tips.

Measure your bathroom well. Choose items that you think you’d like in your bathroom and get the measurements. Some suggest drawing a plan to scale, but for those of us who are less visual, it can be helpful to cut paper to the actual size of the footprint of the item. Place these items in the bathroom, arranging them to where you think you would like them. This is a good way to see how well things fit. Don’t forget that you need space between things. You don’t want to clutter your bathroom with so many things that you don’t have any space to get around.

If everything fits well, there are a few more considerations. You might be limited by plumbing or electricity. Window placement makes a difference, too, unless you have no qualms about showering in from of a window.

If things don’t fit well, play with the design a bit (if space, electrical, and plumbing allow.) See if you can come up with more efficient use of space and still enjoy the design.

If you have a small bathroom and not a ton of space, you’ll have to decide what you can do without. For example, you can use a pedestal sink, which takes less space than a full cabinet. Conversely, you can use a cabinet but don’t include shelves. Some towels and toilet paper can be stored in the cabinet, with the excess supplies in a convenient storage area elsewhere in your house. It might also be helpful to make sure you have the best home energy quote, I hear Money Expert (https://www.moneyexpert.com/gas-electricity/) do some great price comparisons.

A little imagination and a lot of measuring can help your dream bathroom work for you. When you find a bathroom design that works, it’s time to put the pieces together. It’s a lot of work, but it can be worth it.

Don’t forget to leave a comment on our blog and tell us what you’re doing to create your dream bathroom. Also, if this blog has helped you, or can help someone you know… share it! We’d really appreciate it.

Keep Your Shower Drain Clog Free

There are a vast variety of options when it comes to clearing your clogged shower drains. Chemical cleaners, organic cleaners, plumbing snakes, plungers and more. But being preventative will save you a lot of trouble and ultimately save you tons of big bucks. Being preventative means trying to prevent the clogs from even happening. Be sure to take notice of everything that you rinse down your drain. After doing lots of research, we highly recommend keeping a contact number for a local emergency plumber to hand such as onetorontoplumbing.com as you never know when you are going to need them!!

What’s that smell?

When you don’t take good care of your drains, the first consequence is often a foul smell. Although a foul smell is usually associated with kitchen drains, it’s not uncommon to find offensive smells lingering from your shower drains.

After the smell, the clogs gradually appear, causing drains to simply work slowly at first, followed by a complete closure of the drain system. If you neglect to heed the warning of a slow drain clog, permanent damage can occur. Drains aren’t built to last forever, but basic care can extend the life of your drains by decades. It’s not easy to access the pipes underneath a shower so you will need to contact a plumber for professional help, here is a link to a fantastic plumber https://www.fixitrightplumbing.com.au/plumber-somerville/ they can fix an clogged shower drain in no time at a very affordable rate.

Get yourself a hair catcher

Being careful about what goes down the drain is the most important aspect of preventative drain maintenance. Doing something as simple as this can mean you don’t have to call a plumber. However, if you haven’t taken this preventative step then you could easily call up someone like inland plumbing to help you out if needs be. In bathtubs and showers, the biggest problem is usually hair. By using a hair catcher (a wire mesh filter that can be placed over or under the drain) you can minimize the risk of an clogs. Cleaning out the hair catcher only takes a couple of seconds after every shower. You can watch how to install one here on this Youtube video.

Clean that sucker out

Gently cleaning the inside of a drain about twice a year helps to prevent the buildup of biofilm, hairballs and other clog-causing gunk. You can use white vinegar to clean your drain. White vinegar is mildly acidic but powerful enough to dissolve most of the particles forming in your drains. Pour two cups of vinegar down the drain, wait about ten to fifteen minutes, then flush the drain with hot water. If you still come up with a clog after these preventative measures then it’s time to call in the experts. Don’t forget — you can always count on your licensed local plumbers.

Remember, Designer Drains and it’s employees are not licensed plumbers, we are just giving you DIY advice to use for your own benefits. If you have any pressing plumbing questions please consult a licensed plumber.

For The Steampunk Lovers

Brand new obsession.

INDUSTRIAL.

Industrial style has been inspiring artists, home decor and fashion designers for ages. Much like Rococo (the soft, pastel Marie Antoinette inspired fashion from 18th century France) Industrial seems to make a come back every couple of years from the runway to interior design. And for good reason! Industrial is a unique, complex genre that anyone would look twice at. In fact, a subculture sprouted from the popular look called Steampunk. And if you’ve never heard of it, you’ve definitely seen it. Steampunk for many can be a lifestyle, composed of industrial, Victorian fashion and gears, gears, gears!

One of my favorite things about Industrial style is it’s fairly “genderless” in it’s entirety! Surely no styles have a gender, but some men may not be too fond of a pastel pink bedroom and I know a few ladies who may not appreciate a superhero themed living quarter (although I’d LOVE a Captain American themed kitchen) but everyone can find beauty in the neutral colors and rustic quality of Industrial.

And best of all, though some industrial furniture and artwork can be pricey, there’s a great amount of DIY possibilities for you to make all on your own! Plywood and some rusty pipes can make an incredible steampunk inspired shelf. Clocks, gears, and old timey maps can give your home a seasoned traveler feel.

When I say Steampunk is a lifestyle, I mean it! From clothing to decor, your entire life could revolve around industrial if you wanted! Some of my favorite designers have had entire runway shows completely based on Steampunk-victorian style.

Such interesting and unique designs and creations have come from Steampunk influence. Movies, Entertainment and even music can sometimes take an industrial twist. Movies like the Wild Wild West and bands like Steam Powered Giraffe use cool industrial inspired looked to add to their appeal. Here’s an awesome music video from one of the first Steampunk inspired bands I ever heard of! Watch how they move and talk like robots. Everything about Industrial is rustic, dark colored and old fashioned while still being captivating and new. Organic but inanimate! I was hooked on Steam Powered Giraffe after I first saw this video.

Clothes, movies, music. And of course home decor! Whether you’re a die hard Steampunk fan or just slightly intrigued by industrial style, taking your home to the next level could definitely mean taking a little Steampunk influence. Take some of these fun appliances for example! (I’ll post any sites I find that sell industrial decor under the photos, in case you’d rather not get your hands dirty)

Though the idea of a fully realized conceptional room completely based on steampunk decor is extravagant to me. Maybe an entire industrial home is a bit much for some, but even just one room out of your house will turn major heads. Take these for example.

That bathroom is godly! I am obsessed with decorative pipes and gears. So you’ve just went all out on your new industrial style bathroom and that old shower drain is bringing down your Steampunk vibes. Well I’ve got just the decorative drain cover for you! Sprockets is a cool, rustic, gear designed drain that’s the perfect touch to your industrial bathroom or kitchen! And it comes in oil rubbed bronze~

Making Waves

If you’ve been keeping up with our blogs, and I know you have because you’re awesome, you know that our Oceanus Series is one of our most popular collections! Everyone loves the beach, and anything beach related. The seaside is one of the most relaxing places one can imagine. The smell of salt, the warm breeze, and my favorite, the waves crashing lightly against the coast. You can hear it right? I know i can!

Waves are beautiful, terrifying and majestic. They can bring a sense of serenity or utter chaos. Sometimes my goal is to become a human embodiment of a wave….but that’s just me. While I spend my time figuring out how to be the wave I deserve to be, let’s talk about you and your future wave themed home. All waves are beautiful, but I am absolutely obsessed with traditional Japanese nami wave art. We all know the ones.

nami

A lot of interior designers, fashion designers and artists are inspired by the beautiful works of traditional Japanese artists and for good reason! The serene-ness of the soft color palettes in contrast of harsh lines are one thing that makes these paintings so memorable. I’m seeing a lot of fashion inspired by Nami waves. Whether abstract or literal.

Alena Akhmadullina Russia Spring 2016 takes a literal adaptation of Nami waves, transforming models into walking tsunami paintings. So beautifully done.

Or this great Japanese bomber jacket! Nami waves, cherry blossoms and a beautiful mix of hard and soft.

While these are gorgeous, fashion isn’t the only avenue that implements waves. Home decor can easily take a seaside twist. Maybe you aren’t ambitious enough to go all out like some of these creative sea lovers.
