Aaron from Richmond –
These drains are quantum step up from standard drains. I had satin nickel fixtures but the builder used chrome drains in two walk-in showers in my house. I never them it but it took about 4 years after moving in for me to finally look for something else. I stumbled upon this site and I’m glad I did. The craftsmanship of these drains is in a league of its own. I hesitate to use the word, “art” to describe a drain but they really are.
Even though my old drain seemed to clip on to the PVC pipe beneath it, there were screw holes in the pipe when I removed the old cover. I measured the mid point from each hole and purchased a corresponding drain. I liked the first one so much I bought one more for a second bathroom.
I opted for the screen too (even though it seems a bit pricey for what it is). The screen was pre-cut to drop on to the PVC pipe around the screws. I like the screen not only to catch hair or whatever, but also so you don’t see the water that always rests above the trap in your pipe. The cutouts are larger in these drain covers and depending on how much light you have in your shower, you may be able to see straight down in the drain. The screen does a nice job of concealing anything beneath it in the pipe. I’m sure you can find stainless steel screen and cut it yourself but this was a no-muss, no-fuss install. It seriously took 2 minutes.
